What types of degrees are available online?

There are plenty of different educational programs that can be pursued through online education, including:

  • High School Diploma: If you were unable to finish your high school education in the traditional manner for whatever reason, there are now options for you to get your GED through online study. From there, the realm of advanced education opens up to you as well as employment opportunities.
  • Associate's Degree: The associate's degree is offered through most traditional community colleges and is a great way to brush up on specific subjects of interest to you without committing to the full four-years of a university degree.
  • Bachelor's Degree: The bachelor's degree is the basic degree offered at most accredited schools. More positions that used to be available without degrees are now being offered only to those with this basic education.
  • Master's Degree: A cut above the bachelor's degree, the master's degree indicates a higher, more specialized level of mastery in a specific field. A master's degree program usually requires 2 years of further study after a bachelor's degree is earned.
  • Doctorate Degree: The doctoral degree is the pinnacle of American education at this time. Doctoral degrees are offered in just about any subject imaginable and usually take years of work beyond the master's degree, but in some circumstances, the doctorate degree may be pursued immediately after the bachelor's degree, such as when pursuing law or medicine.
  • Certification: Certification shows a specialized mastery in a very specific skill or area within (or separate from ) a major, such as in Web Development, Teaching, or as a Microsoft Certified Specialist (MCS).
